This lady is the winner of the framed print The Laughing Giraffe, which I donated to our local Boots the chemist, who raise money for local charities. This year all money raised was for the Stewartry Young Carers, which I think is a very worthwhile cause.

TIME FOR REFLECTION

03/10/2016

Dad

DAD

It has been quite a while since I have posted a blog, I have called this A time for reflection, because I feel that is what it really is. Sadly, I lost my father not so long ago, and it has made me reflect on my own life and that of my family. I have been kept busy with exhibitions, but now that they are over and I will be going back to work I know that things will feel different. This is the last photo ever taken of my father and me. Thanks Dad, for every thing you taught me about life. I think of you every day and miss you lot's xx

THE KELPIES ARE HERE!

Yes, they have arrived, it is so exciting! They look absolutely stunning set with the back drop of the harbour in Kirkcudbright. Here while the Art and Craft Trail is on, you must come and have a look at them and enjoy the open studios and gardens over the weekend from July 29th until 1st August. they are so magical. I took this photo at the opening ceremony where a huge crowd turned out to welcome them. I will be in Venue 59 over the trail weekend in the Parish Hall, do come and say hello and see all the new work I have been doing.

Hot, Hot, Hot.

08/06/2016

Summer is here at last!
It has been really hot in Galloway the last few weeks, and I mean seriously hot. It's very hard to work in the studio because of the heat, but I try to battle on!
I've also been out sketching with a friend, which is lovely, as you can motivate each other more and compare things.
Two exhibitions coming this next week that I will be taking part in, the Kirkcudbright Art and Craft trail taster on at the Harbour cottage Gallery in Kirkcudbright, and The Dumfries and Galloway Fine Arts at Castle Douglas Gallery, so getting work ready for these.

EXCITING TIMES AHEAD

25/02/2016

SIGNS OF SPRING

Despite having a couple of really chilly days, there are definitely signs that Spring is on it's way now, in a sheltered spot there is warmth in the sun, the birds are singing in the early mornings and the daffodils are beginning to bloom, the days are stretching out too, which means I can work a bit longer in the studio. If you have never visited our area before, then this is the year that you must come and have a look, because something very exciting is happening in the Summer when the Kirkcudbright Art and Craft Trail is on. The Kelpies are coming to Kirkcudbright! The two maquette sculptures are going to be near the harbour and they will look absolutely stunning against the backdrop of the boats and harbour, you just must come and visit to see for yourselves. they will be here from July 25th until Aug 29th and I am so excited I can hardly wait for them to arrive! www.artandcraftstrail.co.uk

PLANNING AHEAD

23/01/2016

strata snowdrops
I can't believe how quickly January has flown by. I have been busy planning my year ahead, making lists of things to do so that they don't slip by the wayside as the year goes on and I get involved with other things. I don't feel that the Winter has been a long one, we have had only one fall of snow, but a lot of flooding near by with all the rain falling instead. I have tried to get outside to do some sketching but it has really been too cold, so I have been working mainly inside the studio. Later on this year I will be exhibiting with two friends in Castle Douglas art gallery at the end of August so this is my main focus at the moment to get enough new work made to show. The exhibition will be called TRIPLE VISION and will be a mix of art and fabric work, so I am quite excited about it. Here is a little painting of snowdrops that may be in the exhibition.

AT THE MARKET

13/12/2015

Kirkcudbright Market
Here I am all set up for the Christmas Market held in Kirkcudbright, the markets are held once a month, I was helped by my husband Bill. It rained and rained and rained all day long and was also freezing cold, but lot's of people came out to support all the traders which was really lovely considering the weather. Everything at the market is made or sourced locally, there are some fantastic food stalls and craft stalls, and a great atmosphere to go with it. This was the last one until March next year.

AUTUMN COLOURS

17/10/2015

SHADES OF AUTUMN

This little picture is one that I took at Broughton House Garden the last time I was in there sketching one Saturday morning. I just love the rich orange and red shades which are all around us at the moment, we are having a wonderful Autumn here in Galloway as the weather has been so dry for so long, beautiful warm sunny days, and crisp cold evenings. I can't remember the name of the flower in the picture, but I do love the colours of it!

31/07/2015

CRAFT TRAIL
OFF WE GO!!

This is now underway and on until August 3rd. I am in venue 51 which is the Parish Church Hall along with other artists and makers, so there is lots to see. I have a lot of my new watercolours on show along with several pieces of older work which I am offering for sale at half price or less, so this is a good chance to pick up something original at a fantastic price!
I also have work on display in the Town hall which is showing the Airdrie Boys Exhibition, The Harbour Cottage Gallery, and tomorrow I will be hanging some work in Mulberries Coffee which will be there for the whole of August. In Dumfries, at Gracefields Art Centre the Dumfries and Galloway Fine Art Society has 2 of my cockerel paintings on show in their annual exhibition, so as you can see it has been a really busy time lately. ...more

PAINTING IN THE GARDEN

13/07/2015

CHAOS IN THE STUDIO

This is a photo showing the results of a frenzied few days spent painting in the garden. I have been determined to make the most of the decent weather and spend time outdoors. The foxgloves were out as well as some roses, it seems as if it is all pink flowers at once, but I guess that's just the way it is in nature. Anyway, as usual I do several pieces of the same flower over and over, trying to find the essence of what I want to say about them, and of course I just have to let the paint run and dribble, and splash and spatter paint all over because that's what I love to do. Not all these pieces are finished, and perhaps they never will be, but they will remain a wonderful memory of Summer in the garden.

JUNE ALREADY!

13/06/2015

I can't believe it is June already! I have been doing quite a bit of painting in watercolour recently, getting some work ready for Kirkcudbright Art and Craft Trail which is on from 31st July until 3rd of August. I will be in venue 51 Kirkcudbright Parish Hall along with other artists. I will be having for sale a lot of unframed work at a very affordable price! Different subjects, ranging from animals, flowers and landscapes all painted especially for the trail, so if you fancy a piece of original work come along and have a look. I will be posting some of them on my face book page on the run up to the trail. There is always so much to do and see over the trail weekend, if you have never visited this part of Galloway before you will love it.

IT'S ALL GO, GO, GO.

19/04/2015

The first exhibitions have been and gone, and what a whirlwind it seems to have been just lately. There is a lot of planning ahead with being an artist, and I have been working on things that are going on show much later in the year. The weather has been glorious here in Dumfries and Galloway, really sunny and warm, and it has brought all the bees out in the garden, which is lovely to see, and I like hearing their buzzing as I am working, it is comforting in some way.
This little painting will be popping up somewhere in Kirkcudbright in July, so keep your eyes open, you might see it!

WHAT'S AROUND THE CORNER?

25/02/2015

SIGNS OF SPRING

After all the weather that has been thrown at us these past few days, there are definitely signs of Spring in the air. When I go out in the morning to feed the ponies, the birds are starting to sing their heads off and the sun hits a bank of trees opposite our house, turning them from a sort of umber colour into a lovely warm gold. The daffodils are shooting at least 6 inches above ground so they won't be long before they come into flower , I just love the spring flowers! In my studio at the moment, I have a pot of Hyacinths, and the scent from them hits you as you go in, it's just magical.
It won't be long now until my first group exhibition, at Easter, held in Castle Douglas Art Gallery, Threave Artists. I do hope to see some of you there.

SNOWDROPS

10/02/2015

The first snowdrops have been pushing through the snow here in Galloway, and as you know they are one of my favourite flowers to paint, I just adore them, and love trying out different ways of capturing them, either by using different colours or by creating different textures within the painting. I have to paint several pieces trying to find what it is I want to say about them, I find I start out quite detailed and as I go on they become looser as I get into my subject. Here are two from the latest one's I have been painting.

JANUARY SNOW

17/01/2015

Snow in Galloway
It's been a really cold start to the new year here in Galloway. I have been out sketching a couple of times but found it too cold for my fingers even to hold a pencil, so it's back into the studio for me, for a while where it's at least a bit warmer!
A lot of snow has been falling, and how it transforms the landscape, every thing seems that much paler, and yet I still find lots of colour about in the bare trees and bushes, which is intensified by the brightness of the snow contrasting it.
I have started to list the exhibitions that I will be taking part in this year, which you can find on my exhibitions page, and you can also keep up with me on Facebook .

workshop

16/11/2014

PAINT FOOD AND FUN!!

I had a very enjoyable day at a workshop along with some of my fellow artist's.
Michael Clark was our tutor, and we were working in watercolour and acrylic, our subject was buildings, after a talk and demo, we got on with our own paintings using photos we had taken as reference. Workshops are always fun, as you get to push your self a little harder out side of your comfort zone, and the chatter with the other participants is always lively! Lunch is always delicious, and we were treated to some Italian chocolates after, yummy!!
I was working on archways from a near by Abbey, here is one of the paintings.
